BACK TO ROOTS:

This was a single board (20 x 30) competition entry for C2C [cradle 2 cradle] in 2004.  The concept is built on going ‘Back to Roots’ and manipulating by hand the kinetic facade built into a fly-ash concrete frame.  The frame is permanent yet the infill panels are infinitely configurable/adjustable.  Each room has a fireplace to warm the rammed earth wall within as well as radiate through to the adjoining room.  Circulation happens along one edge while the ‘spine’ houses the occupants' base program elements.  The roof contains a PV covered shade room and a greenhouse.  Parapet construction helps to create a water catchment basin for reuse in the house for grey water flushing and water for plants.  Though not a winning entry, it was selected to be on display with a hand-full of other meaningful entries for discussion.
